ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Job Type: Full-time
Job Description:
- Assisting the public in person and over the phone.
- Answer telephone calls/return calls to customers.
- Receiving, indexing, and recording court case information and/or legal documents.
- Entering and updating data into department databases.
- Providing copies of official court and/or legal documents to the public, courts, litigants, attorneys, and other appropriate parties.
- Taking payments for court ordered fines and assessments.
- Schedule/coordinate court related functions (hearings, trials, calendars, etc.)
- Process tickets and warrants.
- Maintain files of records and protect defendants’ confidential information.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of municipal court or police experience.
- One year of office assistant experience.
- Intermediate in Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or Political Science.
- 1-2 years of experience using Lawtrak software.
- 3 or more years of office assistant experience.
- 2-5 years of municipal court or police experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN STREET & SANITATION DEPARTMENT
DIESEL MECHANIC
The City of Darlington’s Street & Sanitation Department is seeking a part-time Diesel Mechanic. The is position is great for someone who is seeking afternoon hours.
Pay depends on experience.
Job Type: Part-time
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- 1-2 years of experience repairing/maintaining vehicles and equipment; or trade school graduate
- Must own tools applicable to position
- Basic understanding of schematics and diagrams
- Superior customer service, teamwork and verbal/written communication skills
- Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lbs.
Experience level:
- 1 year experience
Experience for the job:
- Diesel engine repair: 1 year (Required)
- Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification: Driver’s License (Required)

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE / BEAUTIFICATION WORKER
This person will work under the supervision of the Streets and Sanitation Department. They will work on general upkeep and maintenance of welcome areas, decorated medians, and other rights-of-way and city owned properties as directed.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for landscaping maintenance of various City property and entrances
- Responsible for pruning removal of small trees and shrubs
- Reviews completed work to determine quality of work
- Responsible for grass cutting and weed eating in designated public rights-of-way as assigned
- Responsible for watering of plants on public right-of-way and the flowers pots on the Public Square
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School or general educational degree (GED)
- One to three years’ experience working in landscaping or a similar field
- Must possess required knowledge, skills, and experience to be able to explain and demonstrate the essential functions of the job
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to carry out common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and supervisor
- Basic carpentry or mechanical skills a plus
Required License or Certificates
- Must possess a South Carolina driver’s license
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

- Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying 40+ pounds
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform essential functions.
- Working conditions will include both indoor and outdoor work
· The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts or fumes and airborne particles. The noise level may be loud.

WORKING FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
PATROL OFFICER
Position hours: Full-time position. 12-hour rotating shifts
Job Duties:
- Responds to emergency police situations
- Performs community-oriented proactive law enforcement work involving a variety of general or support duty assignments
- Drives or walks to observe illegal or suspicious activities
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid SC driver’s license
- Must possess or able to obtain certification from South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy
Pay info: Salary based on certification status, education and experience
