City of Darlington Partners with TextMyGov for Text Messaging System

DARLINGTON, SC (Aug. 15, 2025) – In an effort to keep the community more informed, the City of Darlington has partnered with TextMyGov to provide a text messaging system that will provide updates on events, city services and emergencies.

The initiative, set forth by the vision of Mayor Curtis Boyd and City Council, is a convenient way for subscribers to stay informed of what’s happening in the City of Darlington. The city officially launched the new smart text messaging system on Friday, August 15, 2025.

“The City of Darlington is always searching for new communication avenues, and this service will help residents and interested visitors stay informed,” said City of Darlington Public & Community Affairs Director, Hunter Thomas. “Not everyone is on social media, so it’s imperative that the city continues to find ways to communicate with all audiences.”

Residents may receive a text message from 91896 from the city initiating the service. Subscribers can choose to opt-out at any time by texting STOP. If an individual doesn’t receive the initial message and wants to be included, they can choose to opt-in by texting the keyword “DARLINGTONSC” to the number 91896. After sending the initial keyword, the subscriber will be asked to reply “YES” to confirm opt-in.

“Through TextMyGov’s service, many residents will automatically be enrolled,” Thomas said. “However, if a resident doesn’t receive the initial enrollment text, they can easily subscribe. Opting out is very simple as well. Directions on how to do so will be outlined on the city’s website.”

Other municipalities across the country are utilizing this system with great success, so the City of Darlington is excited to offer the service to its residents. The city is hoping the messaging system will help streamline information and minimize phone calls.
