City of Darlington Voluntary Water Conservation Requested Due to Severe Drought Conditions
The City of Darlington Water Department is asking all water customers to voluntarily reduce water usage as the area continues to experience severe drought conditions.
While the City’s water system remains operational and capable of meeting current demand, ongoing dry weather and declining groundwater recharge levels make conservation efforts critical to protecting the water supply and maintaining system reliability for essential uses such as drinking water, fire protection, healthcare facilities and public safety.
The City is requesting that all residents, businesses and industries take reasonable steps to reduce unnecessary water consumption until conditions improve.
Recommended Water Conservation Measures
Citizens are encouraged to consider the following voluntary conservation practices:
- Limit lawn irrigation and outdoor watering.
- Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day to reduce evaporation.
- Water lawns only when necessary.
- Use a broom instead of a water hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.
- Delay washing vehicles unless absolutely necessary.
- Repair leaking faucets, toilets and outdoor spigots promptly.
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
- Take shorter showers and avoid unnecessary water use indoors.
- Turn off faucets while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Avoid filling swimming pools or decorative fountains during drought conditions.
- Restaurants are encouraged to serve water only upon request.
- Businesses should review operations for opportunities to reduce water usage.
Even small reductions in water usage across the community can significantly help preserve available water resources during prolonged dry conditions.
The City of Darlington Water Department will continue monitoring drought conditions closely and will provide updates if additional conservation measures become necessary.
The City appreciates the cooperation and support of its residents and businesses during this period of severe drought.
