The City of Darlington has a lot of happening for fall!

Fall decorations have been put around the Square thanks to the City Beautification Board and the Darlington Garden Club. The air might not be cool enough to think about autumn and pumpkin spice, but the cascade of activities for fall are here!

SATURDAYS ON THE SQUARE

DDRA ALIVE 2021 SATURDAYS ON SQUARESaturdays on the Square will have Bout Time Band perform live for the DDRA’s Bringing Downtown Alive!

Come Downtown from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 2, at the Public Square for an 80s Block Party.
Car show, food, cornhole tournament, Pepsi, and more. Bring a chair.

GRAND OLD POST OFFICE

FALL EVENTSThe Southeastern Bluegrass Association of South Carolina will hold its monthly concert from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, and on the first Saturday of every month at The Grand Old Post Office 201 Pearl St., Darlington.

The doors open at 4 p.m.  Featured bands begin at 6 p.m.
Admission is $7 for members, $5 for students, free for children, and $10 for all others.

Come on out for jamming and socializing.

38TH ANNUAL S.C. SWEET POTATO FESTIVAL

darlington activitiesThe Pilot Club of Darlington presents Darlington County’s longest running festival, the 38th Annual S.C. Sweet Potato Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Public Square in Darlington.

The SC Sweet Potato Festival includes a day of fun for the whole family on the courthouse Square in Darlington, South Carolina.
The event includes well over 100 vendors of food, crafts, games, and exhibits from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sweet potatoes and sweet potato dishes abound.

Throughout the day entertainment takes place along with a classic/antique car show. A new feature this year will be a live auction of an array of interesting items worthy of your bid, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Darlington County Humane Society.

ActivitiesThe 2021 Taste of Darlington will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 14, in the garage area at Darlington Raceway as a fundraiser for the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association (DDRA).

HOUSE OF REFUGE OUTREACH MINISTRY EVENT

Join the House of Refuge and the Refuge Outreach Ministry for the 9th National Awareness Day calling for the elimination of violence against women.

October 16, 10 a.m. the House of Refuge along with Mayors of Darlington and Hartsville, The Naomi Project, Pee Dee Coalition, Lydia’s Nest, and others will be on the courthouse grounds.

Spokespeople will discuss the statistics and services in the Pee Dee to help Stop Domestic Violence.

CONCERT AT THE GRAND OLD POST OFFICE

WoundTight, comprised of Dr. Scott Jackson and Darlington native Dr. Andy Cohen, will perform October 17 at The Grand Old Post Office, 201 Pearl St.

Scott and Andy blend intricate finger style guitar with tight, beautiful vocal harmonies in their personal arrangements of popular songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and to date.

PIG PICKIN’ IN THE PARK

Pig Pickin’ in the Park is back!

Williamson Park is hosting their traditional Pig Pickin in the Park from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 23

Stroll the 70+ acre nature preserve, eat some tasty Que, and listen to live music.

Proceeds benefit the upkeep, maintenance, and improvements to the Park.
Tickets are $25 each and include all-you-can-eat BBQ, beer and wine, other beverages, and dessert. Eat-in only, no take-out.
No alcohol will be served to anyone younger than 21.

SCARE ON THE SQUARE

FALL EVENTSThe Darlington Area Recreation Department and the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association (DDRA) will offer children a downtown Trick-or-Treat experience at the 2021 Scare on the Square from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 28, at the Public Square in Darlington.

Employees of area businesses will be handing out treats to costumed children, and some will be dressed in costumes themselves. The free event provides a safe environment for children to trick-or-treat as well as giving businesses an opportunity to show their community support and open their doors to new potential customers.

The Public Square will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 o’clock for the safety of the children. If a church, civic club, or business wants to participate, call 843-398-4000 or 843-398-4030. You also may email info@buildupdarlington.org.

The annual DDRA Business Costume Contest will be held during the Scare on the Square as well as on Friday, October 29. Businesses should call Lisa Rock at 843-992-1561 to be included in the contest.

TASTE OF CHRISTMAS

FALL EVENTSThe Darlington Fire and Police Departments team up to give Christmas to needy children in the community.

The two groups gather the best cooks around to raise money for the Toy Fund during the Taste of Christmas, held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at First Baptist Church.

Tickets $10 each. All ages welcome.

2ND ANNUAL CHAFEE JONES MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Second Annual Chafee Jones Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Darlington Country Club, 125 Country Club Road.

Registration at 10:30 a.m. with shotgun start at noon.

Awards to follow. Box lunch included.

Cost: $100 per player, $400 per team.
