City of Darlington hires Hunter Thomas
to Serve as Public & Community Affairs Director

The City of Darlington has hired local resident, Hunter Thomas to spearhead the city’s marketing and communications efforts while serving as the Public and Community Affairs Director.

Thomas, a 34-year-old native of Darlington, SC, brings more than 14 years of marketing, public relations, journalism and social and digital media experience to the city. The Darlingtonian’s past work experiences primarily derive from within education and the NASCAR industry.

As the Public and Community Affairs Director at the City of Darlington, Thomas will tell the story of the city and its citizens. He will build upon the social and digital media efforts, manage and implement the city’s branding and assist with events and beautification.

I truly feel this opportunity is a calling for me, and I’m eager to get out into the community and begin serving the citizens of our wonderful city.”

As a communications professional in NASCAR, Thomas has served race teams, racetracks and the sanctioning body. For more than 14 seasons, Thomas has been a member of the NASCAR media, working alongside national media outlets within the fast-paced media centers at the various racetracks around the nation.

For more than 10 years, Thomas has also worked in education, serving as the Public Information Specialist at Florence-Darlington Technical College and most recently, the Marketing & Communications Manager at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics. At both institutions, Thomas’ efforts significantly impacted social and digital media growth and increased brand awareness.

Throughout his career, Thomas has also freelanced for Pee Dee and Grand Strand media outlets as well.

Thomas has a B.A. in Mass Communications from Francis Marion University and a M.S. in Management and Leadership from Coker University. He also earned a Content Writing certificate from Cornell University.
