City of Darlington Installs Sewer Pump Station on Highway 34
DARLINGTON, S.C. (July 14, 2025) – The City of Darlington’s new sewer pump station on Highway 34 near McLeod Behavioral Services is now complete.
Construction of the new force main sanitary sewer line began in Oct. 2024, and it replaces an old line that used to run atop Black Creek. This new system now runs underneath the creek and into a new pump station that sits at the City’s entrance.
“The City is excited for this new system,” said City of Darlington Public & Community Affairs Director, Hunter Thomas. “To add a new pump station to the Northeast side of town is huge because now the Water & Sewer Department can better optimize its services for McLeod Health, the Darlington Country Club and any future commercial or residential additions, and it eliminates the use of the old line that ran atop Black Creek.”
On Feb. 20, crews conducted a draw down test, which energized the pumps and tested the system, including lines, valves and pumps for pressure and volume.
Davis & Brown Engineering and Environmental Services were engaged as the City Engineers in April 2024, and the project grant was awarded for the SC RIA SCIIP Grant, which partially funded the project, along with the City of Darlington’s ARPA funds. Frank Horne Construction, Inc. carried out the construction and MPD Electric Cooperative is supplying the power.
The new sewer pump station is now operational, with a newly paved entrance.
