Darlington Police Department to Commemorate Nation’s 250th Anniversary with New Badge
DARLINGTON, SC (March 30, 2026) – Officers at the Darlington Police Department will wear special badges until the end of the year to commemorate and celebrate the United States of America’s 250th anniversary.
The Darlington Police Department, which was founded in 1835, has been in operation for all but 59 years of the nation’s formation. Throughout nearly 200 years of operation, the Darlington Police Department has continued to evolve as it now services more than 6,000 calls a year throughout the five-square-mile city.
“The Darlington Police Department is proud to serve the residents of Darlington,” said Darlington Police Chief Jimmy Davis. “Our department has a long, storied history in this great nation, and this year, we want to show homage to the country’s Semiquincentennial.”
Accompanied by the American Flag and the original Betsy Ross Flag, the new gold-plated badge features several scenes, including the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a portrait of President George Washington, who was a General at the time, and Independence Hall, among other historical images. The central artwork featured is part of the famous work by Smith & Warren, called, “The Founding”. The slogan, “Called to serve. Sworn to protect,” is also prominently featured on the badge.
As the Darlington Police Department nears its new fiscal year in July, it is searching for officers to fill several positions. The Darlington Police Department offers an array of benefits, including South Carolina Police Officers Retirement, healthcare packages, longevity and a tight-knit community.
