DARLINGTON, S.C. (Aug. 21, 2024) – On Monday evening, longtime employee, Gloria Pridgen, was named the Interim City Manager of the City of Darlington.
Pridgen began her career working in the Clerk and Treasurer’s Office in 1979. Following years of serving in the office, she worked in the Police Department before transferring back to the Clerk and Treasurer’s Office, specializing in assisting the Water & Sewer Department. In 1996 under Mayor Ronald Ward, Pridgen was named the Clerk/Treasurer, and she has been serving in the position ever since.
“Mayor Ronald Ward was very instrumental in my career,” Pridgen said. “To this day, he has always supported me. Back in the 90s, we were both young, and we grew in our positions together. I will forever be thankful for his leadership.”
Pridgen has stepped up to the challenge as Interim City Manager once before, prior to the hiring of former City Manager John Payne.
“I love Darlington,” Pridgen said. “I grew up here. I love the small, close-knit community.”
Pridgen will serve as Interim City Manager until Mayor and City Council fulfill the search for a permanent City Manager.
“I would like to thank Gloria for stepping up during this time of need,” said Mayor Curtis Boyd. “Gloria has dedicated her life to the City of Darlington, so she will do a wonderful job in leading the team.”
Gloria is a native of Darlington and has two children and is a 1974 graduate of Mayo High School.
